Weekly Links | 4/2

A small list of things that have been somewhat keeping my spirits high amid some pretty heavy shit going on.

One of my favorite bloggers, Elise, just launched a podcast Elise Gets Crafty! Love her insights and personality.

A new approach on life and commitments.

My beauty product love list: This eyeliner. This polish. This BB cream. When I have had to leave the house the last few days these have made me look not so puffy, red or pathetic.

Lastly, I would really appreciate it if you could check out this Fundrazr campaign.

Before I get into the bulk of my not so important links, I want to talk about someone that is totally rad, wildland fire lady and badass Ashley! Ashe is running 12+ races of Half Marathon distance or longer in 2014 to raise money for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation. So far this year, she has already run two half marathons, which makes my "two 5k's in a year" intention look pretty lame. Bottom line, she is awesome and you should head over to her blog. You can read more about her story here and follow her progress here.

This a cute and easy valentine craft. The possibilities for adult humor are endless!

I love this collection of historical images normalizing Breastfeeding. I mean look at all those ladies not giving a damn! It's awesome.

What happens when you take all kinds of drugs and create self-portraits during your highs? It may look a little like these.

16 Insane Facts About Making Everyday Products.

Shameless family promotion: Megan (my sister) just took a big step and opened a Storenvy shop! Check it out for some awesome crochet pieces.

With that I am off for the weekend. I am working my other job all weekend as well as puppy sitting. It will be a busy couple of days around here!

Weekly Links 2/6

It has bee awhile since I post a links list, but here are a few things I have been digging on the interwebz lately.

This 2014 printable calendar from Oh the Lovely Things will be making an appearance in my Project Life this year. (more to come later)

Craving this meatloaf from Food in my Beard.

For when the time is right, Jaime and Jeff's Birth Plan might give a little insight to how we might want to approach child birth.

Turns out the conventional fruits and veggies are perfectly fine for kids.

Ira Glass on the gap between the work you are doing and your taste/ambitions. So helpful and inspiring, specifically the first two minutes.

Because we are adults: Beer Pairings for Girl Scout Cookies!

As a 90's kid that was practically raised on Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, I find these illustrations totally rad.

Since June I have been involved in quite a few fundraising ventures. One of those ventures was The Wildland Firefighter Cookbook with all profits going to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation.

These three books are currently on my Kindle.

Wishlist: This dress. These shoes. This ring. Not necessarily all on the same day ;)

Alternatives to Traditional Holiday Meals

I have a huge family! My mom has numerous cousins on both sides of her family, and my dad has tons of friends that might as well be family. Our holiday season always started the week before Thanksgiving, and ended the week after the First of the New Year.

Depending on how the calendar falls, that can result in 8-10 weeks of festivities and several holiday meals, and lots of turkey and ham. To be frank, sometimes the traditional options are the most boring ones. With Thanksgiving a week away, and thus the start of the "Holiday Season" for many, I thought it would be fun to share some of my recipes that are great alternatives to the typical Turkey/Ham entree with traditional sweet potato/green bean/mashed potato sides. These recipes would be great for mid-season get togethers and for breaking up the monotony of plain ole turkey and ham.

Clam Pumpkin Soup with an Ancho Floater. This amazing soup would be perfect for a low key get together on a cold evening. It's unique flavors make it just fancy enough for it to be more than just soup for dinner.

source: Marina @ Yummy Mummy Kitchen
Brussels Sprout Mac n Cheese. I love Brussels Sprouts and I love Mac n Cheese. Naturally this is a dish right up my alley. Not only would it make a great side, it can be made in bulk and served as a main dish.

Gingered Cranberry Fig Chutney. Cranberries are a staple this time of year. Instead of relying on the canned jelly from the supermarket, try something a little more unique!
source: Cat Cora via The New Potato
Cornish Game Hens with Pomegranate Sun Dried Tomato Glaze. Back away from the frozen turkey and pick up some game hens instead, especially if you are entertaining a small group. The glaze also adds flavors that sets this recipe apart from your traditional holiday fare.

Cranberry Almond Cake. I don't know about you but Apple and Pumpkin pies can get quite boring. This cake seems like a great way to finish off any meal, especially one during the holidays.

Weekly Links 11/14

Today is the last day of moving! Hurray. Kind of. We hand over our old keys by the end of business today so it is an all of nothing blitzkrieg of cleaning and tying up loose ends. Here are some pretty rad things I have found the last few weeks.

Holidays are in the air and Thanksgiving is on my mind. This year we plan on hosting The Easiest Thanksgiving Ever!

Decorating this new space has been taking up a huge part of my brain. I love these DIY wreaths and the string art table runner from this wedding.

I always thought my family was pretty normal until I met the families of my college friends. It is probably because I have far too many titles from this list.

Wondering how to feed all those houseguests and knock the socks off their feet at the same time? This Breakfast Mac n Cheese might do the trick!

I know Halloween was so last month but this is probably the best costume I have seen from this year. I wish I could find the original link for though!

I love this 2014 Love Quotes Calendar.

Lately, I have been considering getting a tattoo. After seeing this collection of tattoo artists, I want to cover my whole body!

Lusting over these boots, this tee, and this jacket.
