Vino Loco

The fact that Berkeley was gone most of the summer let me fit in some girl time. One Saturday I headed downtown for Second Saturday Songwalk. Different venues around town host singer songwriters. It is like free exposure.

The plan was originally going to be, for us to watch our friend play at another location. He was sick, so us ladies went to a local hangout Vino Loco. They started as a shop that sold specialty and local wines. Within the past year they moved to a new location and added a wine bar!

We each grabbed a "Flight" of wine, which was a trio of tasting glasses. It was pretty much three full wine glasses for not much more of the price of one glass. It was a wine win!

Not being a huge fan of non-Californian reds, I stuck with mostly white wines. First was Giocato Pinot Grigio, Kung Fu Girl Riesling and AZ Stronghold Centennial Rosé. Of the three, the Riesling was my favorite. That was no surprise though. It had all of the great qualities of the Riesling. There were lush aromatics and the fruity flavors resulted in a subtly sweetness that is perfect for a summer wine. My least favorite of the three was the Rosé. Actually, we all agreed that it was a least favorite among the group. In all honesty, we all had the same overall complaint; it tasted like it was strained through a sweaty, dirty sock!
My flight of wines. Left to right it is the Pinot Grigio, the Riesling and the Rosé. It is a shame that that the prettiest wine had to be the worst! With just three of us in this shot there were 8 glasses of 6 different wines! As we started finishing off our wines, we were getting alittle silly.

We ordered a platter of cheese, crackers and almonds. Of the six we chose the Dutch Gouda, a Brie and a Cheddar. They were delicious. The crackers and brie brought out the flavor of the Riesling and it was AWESOME! Neither of these pictures accurately show the platter, but I love the thumbs up from my gal pal in the background of the first one.

Overall, It was a fabulously fun night with the ladies! I am so thankful for these girls this past summer. They kept me company and out of the house busy while Berke was gone!
