Holiday Oatmeal

So one of our favorite breakfast treats this time of year is oatmeal! It is hearty enough for Berke to enjoy before long days of winter work and it is warm and delicious. I prefer old fashioned cut oats and cooking them on the stovetop.

As requested here is the recipe. I really don't need to write a "recipe" but I know some people are intimidated by cooking anything but "instant" oatmeal in the microwave and this is so easy. It only takes 5 minutes plus some water boiling time!

Holiday Oatmeal
ingredients:
for 1 serving
  • 1 c. water
  • 1/2 c. oats
  • milk and/or eggnog
  • brown sugar
  • cinnamon
  • dried cranberries
  • salt
procedure:
  1. Bring the water and a dash of salt to a boil. I like my oatmeal creamier so I use 3/4 c. of water and a little less than 1/4 c. of milk.
  2. Turn down to medium heat and stir the oats. Cook for approximately 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
  3. Add desired amount of cranberries, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Top it off with a tablespoon of milk or eggnog for an extra holiday kick!
